I had my deck stripped and powerwashed last spring. We applied Defy for Hardwoods Cedartone to my cedar deck. We ran out of the product after one coat and were advised not to put another coat on because they would repel each other. What should I do this year? Powerwash and then apply just one coat...or two? Thanks.

When applying a "maintenance" coat to Defy Stains it would be best to use the Defy Wood Cleaner. This will remove the dirt and grime. I would only apply one coat of the Defy Hardwood Stain since it has only been 1 year.

This is great advice. I too have a deck that needs a maintenance coat and I wasn't sure if I needed to wash it again or not. Also wasn't sure if two coats this time around would help or hurt. I think I'll definitely wash it and just do a light coat where needed.

Cleaning and recoating is very easy when done annualy. If you wait 2-3 years between coats then you will need to do a more thorough cleaning and apply the suggested two coats of Defy.

Good to know. Luckily it's only been a year since it was last done and it still looks pretty good. We just want to stay on top of it so it doesn't get bad again. I think it's easier to maintain a deck as opposed to a full blown deck restoration. A good wash with Defy wood cleaner and a coat of Defy deck stain should do the trick.
