I have a deck and put new treated pine deck boards on the railing last year 2020, this year 2021 I wanted to waterproof the rails. I purchased and applied arborcoat waterborne exterior stain clear waterproofer by benjamin more. After application when it rains it soaks in and does not repel the water, what are your suggestions, to wait until 2022 and apply defy extreme semi transparent stain or to go over it this year with that? I just feel like it should repel water not soak in.
You cannot apply another brand of stain over the Arborcoat. You will have to remove it fully first. Also, it is normal for a deck stain to not bead water. The wood needs to breathe.
So in spring of 2022 can I apply cleaner and brightener then apply defy clear or will the other coating still need to be removed with a stripper?
You have to remove.
