Strip off what you can with the RAD stripper and both stripper additives. Let dry and power sand the rest off. RAD Brightener is last.

Sorry... It's raining right now but here's some pics. As you can tell I already power washed with a deck cleaner which removed about half of the surface finish and started sanding some areas. Gave up on the sanding because it still won't remove the finish between the boards and it will look even worse. I want to get back to a "new wood" look so I can apply an oil-based Cabot cedar wood toned stain and sealer.
Kudos to your informative website. You answered all my lingering questions about how sealer removers actually work and why it is scientifically important to use a brightener. (I figured the brighteners were just a way to sell more product.)

Your best bet is to use the RAD stripper but with both additives, let dwell for 45 minutes (keeping from drying) and then pressure wash off. Brightener is last.

Will this stuff strip off water-based sealers like Olympic Maximum semi-transparent stain and sealer so I can switch to an oil based product?  I'm sure someone probably already asked a similar question, but I couldn't find it.   Thanks for your help.

Will the RAD stripper or brightener harm or discolor the stucco on my house if some was to splash on it. Thanks for your help.

I am refinishing my front deck. It’s about 30 x 30 feet (900 sq ft). But I also have a few stairs to do so make it 1500 sq ft. I will restrain the wood afterwards. What products do I need? I’m attaching two photos.

    New Garapa Decking Prep

We laid a new deck last week , before doing so we used Messermers uv plus and let it rest for 2 weeks. Day after laying we developed black mold looking spots , tried cleaning but sanding was the only real fix . What should i do going forward and what should i do to prevent it coming back .

Im happy to sand it and let it sit then seal again , just not sure the steps I should take

How do I get this stuff off? I am preparing a 40 ft cedar privacy fence for staining. I applied TWP several years ago but it had darkened and wore off and was dirty/mildewed. So I powerwashed first and then a week or so later applied the RAD stripper. I then scrubbed with a brush and used hose to wash off. I spent over an hour just rinsing but suds were still coming off. I decided to go ahead with the brightener. I applied that, waited the recommended time, and then borrowed a power washer to wash it off. I spent an hour with power washer and no end in sight to the suds. I had to stop for the night. The next day I spent 3 more hours power washing it and I still see white suds rinsing off! Will this ever stop? I don't want to stain if there is residual stripper/brightener? I thought this whole process would take a couple hours - so far I've rinsed for about 5 hours.

The brightener neutralizes the stripper and restores the pH balance of the wood. You are fine as long as you used the brightener and saturated the wood well with it.

Will this product remove a metal caused rust stain from a cedar deck?
    • We will reply to your comment shortly
      The Sealer Store · 08/25/2019
A brightener helps to remove rust spots that are black in wood. How effective it will be depends on how bad the rusting was and how deep it is into the wood grain.

We have an Ipe deck that we think was originally treated with Penofin Penetrating Oil Finish (we found an old can). The deck is badly faded everywhere except under the doormat. Do we need to use the cleaner or stripper (or both) before the brightener?

It will remove some but not 100%. Looks almost 100% opaque with just a little of the grain showing. Nice home!

More or less, but it is too "thick" for any deck stain stripper to remove fully.

I appreciate your candor. I may still order your Restore-A-Deck Kit to see what can be done. Our West side, which has received a lot of sun for 15 years has the stain coming off quite easily just with light scrubbing and no chemicals. The North & East side look brand new even though it it 15 years old. Good quality Cabot Stain I guess.

Will update you with the results.

I have to ask, do you know of another Product we should experiment with for this situation?

No, nothing will get this off easily or 100 effectively. If you go over it a few times with the RAD, it may get most off.

    jkm49.us:
You suggested I should use the RAD Stripper. I used your calculator to determine the square footage. It is 175sf. I will be using a hand pump to apply the stripper. Will one 2lb container be enough to complete the job. I stained it 2 years ago with AC for hardwoods.
Given the expense of the stripper I am hoping to bet by with one container. What do you think?

Yes only one is needed for this. You do need to brighten the wood after with the Restore A Deck Brightener.
